Description:
The client requested me to design and create an Art Deco Fireplace, reflecting the elegance and sophistication of their Upper West Side residence. While many amazing design solutions were proposed, the one that was selected had references to the fluid metal creations of the famed Edgar Brandt ‘s (1880–1960) railings and balconies created for the Parisian Department store ,Bon Marché. The challenges presented in hand forging thick steel bars and creating forms long ago considered “too complicated” to fabricate by other metal craftsman, were a great test of my skills in steel fabrication. Additionally finding a brass plating company that could “fit” such a large item in their tanks also posed a challenge. But a fine job was provided by Imperial Plating Company of Chicago
